Flying over the other pond...a flight delay because of "maintenance" problems started us out about 45 minutes later than advertised. The "Pi" movie is showing. An interesting breakfast consisted of 4 crackers, some melon slices, and a chocolate covered macadamia nut...and the required orange juice. Nice calm flying weather and we should land in another hour or so.
Was met, and shuttled to adequate hotel. Caught fast dinner and walked along beach walk taking some photos. Caught a dance and music performance in the Hyatt atrium attended by many fairly lethargic tourists. Attempted to stay awake past eight, but couldn't.

Up with the sun! Lovely breakfast at a nearby Thai restaurant with a most delicious breeze. Watched hordes of tourists lemming-like making their way to the sea. Talked with Jeff and am waiting to catch my ride to the ship. More later.
Met J around noon at Pier 11 and just dropped all my stuff in his cabin which filled it up! We then hopped a shuttle to Waikiki - where I just came from! We made a stop at WalMart and I'm sure its
stock rose as we picked up supplies and snacks, wine, and toiletries. WalMart in Honolulu has a whole long aisle labeled "Macadamia Nuts"! Caught the next shuttle back to the ship to unload this batch of stuff. Next was a $20 cab ride to the mall to buy J pants. Phoned home to check in and then flagged another cab to get back to the ship...another $20. A fast change and another cab ride...this one $25 to dinner in Waikiki through horrid traffic caused by...the annual SPAM FESTIVAL...check it out if you don't believe me. One more cab ride ended the day, another $20. In between the to-ing and fro-ing I was given a cabin on Deck 8 (Dolphin) temporarily...it's inside but lovely.

Cryptic note from Jeff this morning started "and now the bad news"...and continued, "the folks in the home office never received the paperwork for having a visitor..."  This puts my escapades in jeopardy and my inner zen is not quiet.  EEK is the first word that comes to mind.  He finished his note, "Don't worry and have faith".  OK.  I think maybe I can do that...maybe.
I'm one week out from leaving on a jet plane.  This globe-trotting granny has started packing (that's a blog for another day!) her expensive new suitcase generously donated to the cause by Jack.  She has started her series of typhoid pills.  She has two more series of knee shots which she's counting on to make walking less painful.  She has pretty much replaced her wardrobe inside and outside.  She has boosted Amazon, Belk, Dillard, Target and even WalMart stocks in the process.  She has scared the foster kitties by wheeling that gorgeous full case back and forth from the weary bathroom scale to see how close she is to the magic number of 50.  Currently not good...holding at 47, without drugs, shirts, blouses, shoes, shampoo, etc.   It now requires serious reconsidering of each item now carefully and strategically placed.. Guesses range from returning 30 to 50% to the closet and dresser drawers.  The phrase that comes to mind is "All will be well"... I hope.
THE PLAN:
THE PLAN is for me to meet Jeff in Honolulu on April 27th and join the SEA PRINCESS mid-way through it's Hawaii, Tahiti & South Pacific Islands Voyage out of Sydney, AU.   I chose this plan because the flight to Honolulu from LAX is so much shorter than the very  long flight to Sydney.  I just didn't think I could manage that one again.  There are still a couple of questions about this simple one night in a hotel in Honolulu before the ship arrives...like,
does this hotel REALLY have hookers stalking the pool area? WHAT? Yes. That's one question to be answered by this granny. Seems hotel comments indicated more than a couple mentioning ladies of the night favoring this hotel that my travel agent chose for me. The ship will return to Sydney and then continue on an around the world cruise. Jeff will be performing and I'll stay on with him until his contract ends on June 28th when we will be in Rome. Then we plan to see Rome, the Vatican, Assisi, and Florence. We'll return to Rome and I'll fly to JFK via Dublin, spend a few days with Curt, Mary, and the girls, then fly to Raleigh around July 10th. That's THE PLAN.

Up at 3:45 AM, just a little earlier than usual rising. Out the door with buggage in tow shortly after five. Airport lines are very long due to government funding cuts. TSA folks are forced to take days off. Lines move and soon I'm boarding. Nice, although long, flight at 4 hours 45 minutes to Phoenix...quick boarding and one more not-so-full flight to Burbank. Got buggage and very soon met Gregg around noon. We stopped home for a quick bite of lunch, then ran a crazy number of errands involving passing the same landmarks quite a few times. Weather was perfect all day. Voted on Ciote pizza for dinner with a nice salad. Caught a part of Dancing With the Stars after which I totally gave it up and hit the bed.
Wednesday, April 24, 2013...Happy Birthday, Jeff!
Slept very well, thank you, without the company of any of Gregg and Kelly's three cats. Had a quick shower, then breakfast and Gregg and I were out the door and on the road to Altadena again for a florist meeting on a job he is managing. Nice to hang out with him and visit with Cara for a bit in her new house...her yard is like a Mediterranean produce market...bananas, avocados, tangerines, grapes, and beautiful flowers, too! Gregg is helping them get ready for a Spring house tour. The plan for tomorrow is to meet Cara and shop for a few hours for odds and ends to fill in. Weather today is cloudy and cool in the 60's and tomorrow will probably be about the same.
